Staff Profiles

Jill Davies – Salon Proprietor

I have been in the hairdressing industry for over 44 years. I cannot believe it, but it's true!

Working as a Saturday girl when I was just 14 and then went on to further my career in hairdressing. I was trained as a 3 year, plus 2-year improver apprentice, which led me to gain a City and Guilds in ladies and gentlemen’s barbering, entering competitions and gaining many certificates countywide. After taking a short break to raise my three children and through much dedication and hard work I started up my business in freelance hairdressing.

My dream was to one day own and run my own salon. These opportunities arouse in 2006, when we opened Hairworx Hair and Beauty in Par Lane, Par. With the help and support of my husband, Mike, we turned a disused run down building into a thriving hair salon.

Three years later, an even bigger opportunity came our way, when we purchased another disused building, 3 times larger which needed major construction work.

Planning was granted and works commenced November 2009 to create this luxury hair beauty and wellness salon.

April 2010, the brand new luxury Hairworx and Wellness salon opened its doors to existing and new clients.

Our salon has gone from strength to strength with a much bigger clientele. So in 2017, we have decided to extend the salon and have started to refurbish the building throughout.

Exciting news for 2023, a new floor will be built above the existing building. This will create space to rent and encourage other therapy and wellness businesses to join us. More details to follow.

We go the extra mile with exceptional service, we use top brands such as Olaplex, K18, Moroccanoil, Crystal Clear etc and we listen to solve our client's needs hearing the music and feeling the atmosphere.

I enjoy being part of a hardworking and dedicated team of individuals. I feel so proud to own this beautiful hair and wellness salon.

"Our philosophy to provide clients with the best individual service and attention possible, truly passionate about making people feel and look their best and our aim is that every client that walks through our doors will leave loving their experience"

Jodie Whitehead – Salon Manageress/Administrator

Hi my name is Jodie. I joined the team at Hairworx when the new luxurious salon opened in April 2010. Previously, I worked at Mid Cornwall Insurance Office based in Bodmin.

My job description within the salon is carefully overseeing all areas of the salon operations ensuring that the business is performing at or above standard. I sort out all the admin, book keeping, payee, holidays and oversee the appointment system.

After having my four amigos Jago, Jowan, Jacca, and Jory I am working from home keeping up with the salon system and analysing the daily operations of the salon establishment. I am always on the end of the phone if and when needed.

I am responsible for sustaining a healthy, positive team environment and that service operations are delivered smoothly.

Cindy Waddington - Receptionist
Hello my name is Cindy. I joined the Hairworx team in 2020.

I was previously working at a local spa and leisure venue nearby and decided to take a challenge on becoming the receptionist at the Hairworx and Wellness Salon.

Although the start at Hairworx was difficult with Covid-19, things are now back to normal and I am enjoying my role. My responsibilities are to greet our client's upon their arrival, answering client's questions about services via phone, email and social media or in person. I also make bookings and process transactions.

I have learnt and gained a lot of experience over this time and I am in more control of the salon system. Usually I am the first face you will see. I will be happy to meet and greet you and guide you in the salon until your stylist or therapist is ready for your appointment.

Lisa Lofthouse - Senior Stylist

Hi my name is Lisa. I cannot believe it, I have been hairdressing at Hairworx for 12 years. I joined as a young, shy, unconfident salon Junior. I have worked within the salon and completed my apprenticeship and gained my NVQ level 2 and 3 in ladies City and Guilds Certificate in hairdressing.

Over these years I have gained so much experience and my confidence keeps on growing. Tannis Bruce - Senior Stylist

Hi my name is Tannis, I joined Hairworx in June 2017.

I have been working within the hair industry for almost 22 years.

I completed my NVQ 2 and NVQ 3 at St Austell college. I then gained experience working in a salon which was based in St Austell. I continued to work here as a senior stylist until 2014.

I wanted to further my experience and decided to train as a hairdressing tutor. After gaining my degree I then went on to complete my Assessors award.

I love all aspects of hairdressing and also enjoy teaching younger students new techniques to gain experience in the hairdressing industry.

I am very patient and enthusiastic. I thrive to ensure my clients have every trust and confidence in my work.

I have built a regular clientele at Hairworx, and enjoy seeing new and returning clients.
Shania Johns - Senior Stylist

Hello I’m Shania

I joined the salon in March 2015 after completing my Level 2 and 3 City & Guilds in hairdressing at St Austell College.

I am a happy and bubbly (most of the time!) character and have a great passion for the industry. I enjoy all aspects of hairdressing - balayage, and creating new colour techniques is probably my favourite. I get a great feeling when my clients return and I am proud when I see my column fully booked.

In 2021, I decided to leave Hairworx and started a new journey on the cruise ships which I absolutely enjoyed. On a couple of occasions, whilst back from the cruise ships on leave, I returned to the salon to help out on busy times and then decided after just a bit more than a year travelling around from country to country, I am going to keep my feet firm on the ground and re-joined my group of friends/stylists at Hairworx.

With a short break in-between, I have been at Hairworx for 8 years and loving every minute.
Caitlin Phillips - Level 2 Stylist
Hello, my name is Caitlin.

I attended Brannel school and left in 2020, famous for the Covid-19 year!

I started off at Truro college studying health and social care. After 6 months at college, I decided that this course wasn’t for me. I saw an apprenticeship being offered at Hairworx. Although hairdressing wasn’t something I ever considered, I applied and I got the job. I absolutely love it.

In September 2021, I started my level 2 at St Austell College which I have enjoyed so much. I have recently passed my Level 2 in Hairdressing and achieved a distinction which I am very proud of as this was completed within 18 months. Thank you very much to Jen Kempthorne at St Austell College and to my colleagues at Hairworx for all the help and support they have given me over this short time.

Here's to Level 3.

I enjoy working with the team, I enjoy the lovely people I am meeting and I am now beginning to build up my clientele. If you would like to come in and have your hair done by me, you will receive 10% off and I would love to see you.
