My story
I have been in the hairdressing industry for over 50 years and I still cannot quite believe it.
My journey began when I was just 14 years old, working as a Saturday girl. From there, I went on to train as a hairdresser through a 3 year apprenticeship followed by a 2 year improver apprenticeship. During this time, I gained my City and Guilds qualifications in ladies’ hairdressing and gentlemen’s barbering, entered competitions, and achieved a number of certificates across the county.
After taking a short break to raise my three children, I returned to the industry with the same passion and determination as ever and started my own freelance hairdressing business.
Owning and running my own salon had always been my dream.
The Hairworx Journey
That dream became a reality in 2006, when Hairworx Hair and Beauty first opened on Par Lane, Par. With the support of my husband Mike, we transformed a disused and run-down building into a welcoming and successful salon.
Just three years later, an even bigger opportunity came our way. We purchased another disused building, three times larger than the first, which required major construction work. Planning permission was granted and work began in November 2009 to create a luxury hair, beauty and wellness salon.
In April 2010, the new Hairworx and Wellness salon opened its doors to both existing and new clients.
Since then, the salon has gone from strength to strength, with our client base continuing to grow. In 2017, we decided to extend the salon further and began refurbishing the building throughout.
In 2025, we were excited to take the next step in our journey with the addition of a brand new upper floor. This has created beautiful new rooms for the beauty industry, along with spaces available to rent for other therapy and wellness businesses. We are also incredibly proud to have installed a lift, making the salon more accessible for those who need it.

For me, it is about more than just hair and beauty. It is about listening to each client, understanding their needs, and creating an experience where they can truly switch off, enjoy the atmosphere, and leave feeling confident and cared for.
I am incredibly proud to work alongside a hardworking and dedicated team, and even prouder to have created a beautiful salon that brings together hair, beauty, health and wellness all under one roof.
